Egis has assisted successful organisation of India’s Third National Dam Safety Conference, held in Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, Uttarakhand on 18th and 19th February, 2017.
The event, now in its third year, is one of several initiatives pioneered under the Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP), financed by the World Bank, for which Egis has been the engineering and management consultant to the Central Water Commission since January 2014.
The conference was attended by around 450 delegates from across India as well as overseas (USA, Australia, Japan, the UK, France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland). 35 national and overseas organisations, including Egis, showcased their products, services and technologies in an exposition organised around the conference venue. Over 70 technical papers were also received and 36 were selected for oral presentation of which five were from members of the Egis DRIP team.
During his inaugural address, Water Resources Ministry Secretary Dr. Amarjit Singh appreciated the significant contribution made by Egis to the continued success of the project. The Egis team currently consists of 40 staff on DRIP, of which 30 are in New Delhi and ten across the seven participating states of Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Uttarakhand and Jharkhand.
Aside from strengthening the dam safety institutional setup in the country through such capacity building activities, the DRIP team is also supporting the rehabilitation and improved operation and maintenance of around 240 selected dams.
