A89: Three tunnels designed with nature conservation groups

Overcoming the ultimate challenge on the A89 motorway alignment

Egis was entrusted with a very special EPCM assignment for three motorway tunnels to the east of the A89 linking Bordeaux and Lyon, carried out in a highly sensitive environmental context.

Project overview

Three single-direction, bi-tube tunnels were built on the A89 Est motorway: at Violay (3,900 m), at La Bussière (1,020 m) and at Chalosset (720 m).

The tunnels have by-passes every 300/400 metres, safety and fire refuges and electrical power supply sub-stations (Violay). These tunnels were built in a highly sensitive environmental context, notably with regard to groundwater and surface waters.

These environmental considerations were taken into account right from the design stage and were incorporated into the works contracts.

Our missions

Egis provided individualised EPCM services for the three tunnels at Violay, La Bussière and Chalosset.
