Australia : Egis signs a contract to provide incident response services in Sydney area

From the 1st of October 2015, Egis will provide incident response services for 3 years on the Lave Cove Tunnel and the M2 motorway in Sydney, Australia.

 

Tollaust, a subsidiary of Transurban Group, the major player in managing private motorways in Australia,which isthe concessionaire in charge of the operation and maintenance of these two motorway sections, assigned the management of incident response services to Egis.

The M2 motorway (21 km) and the Lane Cove Tunnel (3,6 km) are two urban motorways linking the M1 motorway (Gore Hill Freeway) and the northwest suburbs of Sydney in New South Wales. The traffic on these two motorway sections is averaging 120,000 vehicles per day.

With this contract Egis is strengthening its position as a major player for motorway operation services on the Australian market.

A4 motorway in Poland

Egis has just been awarded two contracts for the maintenance of fixed operating equipment and tolling system.

The General Directorate of the National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) renews its confidence in Egis with the award of the maintenance contracts of fixed operating equipment (telecommunication and traffic management systems) and tolling system on the A4 motorway Wroclaw–Katowice in Poland, following two tenders and after an initial contract of 3 years.

 

These contracts are in the continuity of the adjustment to toll motorway standards of the section Wrocław-Sośnica (162 km) of the A4 motorway.

The missions of Egis on these two contracts are:

  • the maintenance of fixed operating equipment (telecommunication and traffic management systems) for the Opole branch of GDDKiA. The duration of this contract is 43 months, until 31 December 2018.
  • the maintenance of the tolling system for the Warsaw branch of GDDKiA. The duration of this contract is 41 months, until 2 November 2018.

 

This section of the A4 motorway includes the following equipment:

  • 68 toll lanes on 13 toll plazas monitored by one operation center,
  • 80 pairs of Emergency Roadside Telephone located along the 162 km of the motorway and managed by GDDKiA.

 

The renewal of these contracts underlines the confidence shown by GDDKiA in Egis. Thanks to an extensive experience in the maintenance of toll motorways around the world, Egis is strengthening its position on the Polish market, closely cooperating with all leading owners of the national road network.

Egis is awarded an operation and maintenance services contract for the National Highway NH-8D

The concession company JSTPL (Jetpur Somnath Tollways Private Limited) awarded the operation and maintenance of the motorway NH-8D to Egis for three years (two years with one year automatic extension) since this month. The scope of works includes toll, route patrolling and incident management of the motorway.

 

The National Highway 8D (NH-8D) is a 124 km toll motorway connecting Jetpur (Rjkot district) and Somnath (Gir Somnath district) on the West coast of the Indian federal state of Gujarat. The motorway has two toll plazas with 10 lanes each.


The Indian road network is the third largest one in the world after the United States and China. For several years, Egis has been involved in many projects to upgrade and develop the entire road infrastructure of the country. This new operating contract strengthens the willingness of Egis to contribute to the sustainable economic and social development of India.

Egis 2014 results

Satisfactory results in a difficult environment

In 2014, Egis recorded managed turnover of €854 million, compared to €881 million in 2013, representing a 3% dip. Despite a slight decline, this turnover remains satisfactory, given the caution of the players in many markets and still difficult economic context, particularly in France.

The Egis’ order book represents more than 20 months of activity, increasing since 2012.

Net profit (Group share) amounts to €36.9 million, representing a drop of €1.4 million compared to 2013.

 

A strong internationalization of activities

53% of turnover is generated outside France as against to 49% in the previous year. The breakdown of turnover between France and International tipped in favour of the latter, which is consistent with our strategic aim to go where the growth is.

Virtually inexistent in the Middle East three years ago, the Group recorded a substantial increase in its activity (turnover rose by 84%), thanks to several successes such as the Doha metro in Qatar, Riyadh metro in Saudi Arabia, or upgrading airfield facilities at Riyadh Airport.

In Americas, and notably in Brazil, the Group turnover rose by 24%. Egis strengthened its presence locally with the acquisition of Lenc, a Brazilian engineering firm. This acquisition allows Egis to become one of the foremost engineering firms, whilst also consolidating its international business activities in one of the most promising countries in the world.

Positive outlook for 2015

Multidisciplinary within Egis and complementary expertise of its teams, are assets to meet the challenges of land-use planning.

Since the beginning of the year, Egis has won several prestigious engineering contracts for the Doha metro in Qatar, the Medina metro in Saudi Arabia, the design and construction supervision of the Um Alhoul Economic Zone in Qatar, project management assistance for all of the communications activities of the Société du Grand Paris, and the integrated EPCM for the construction of new laboratories at the University Hospital in Reims, France.

In line with its development policy and its willingness to be constantly innovative, Egis also strengthens its position in the field of new mobility services (electronic toll systems, smart parking, self-service bicycles, reverse tolling, etc.), a tremendous growth opportunity to boost its activities and offer great perspectives to the group.

Qatar: Egis awarded EPCM contract for rehabilitation of Al Karaana lagoon

Located in the Al Rayyan region, west of Doha, the Al Karaana lagoon covers more than 4 sq.km and is raising serious environmental problems. Almost 60,000 cubic metres of untreated wastewater per day is discharged onto this site by tanker, most notably causing the contamination of the water table by infiltration, producing foul odours and creating safety risks connected with the transport of sewage.

The Public Works Authority of Qatar, Ashgal, has just awarded Egis an engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) contract to rehabilitate this lagoon. Ashgal wishes for the eradication of the lagoon and the site’s comprehensive overhaul, in continuance of the measures taken to date to mitigate its environmental impact.

 

Egis’ assignments

Teams from Egis will be tasked with identifying and qualifying the lagoon’s waters and sludge in order to appreciate the contamination of the water table and evacuate this waste to the appropriate treatment processes.

They will carry out the design of the wastewater treatment and the soil and water table decontamination, write the tender documentation, perform the design review of the plans and documents submitted by the selected contractor, and finally supervise the works.

Egis will consequently be mobilising all of its engineering capabilities for a period of 23 months to reduce to a minimum the environmental impact of this site, then redevelop it and convert it for new uses, in accordance with its sustainable development commitments.

This new contract gained follows another one awarded several weeks ago, also in the water sector: the extension of the Doha West waste water treatment and recycling plant.

The contract further bolsters Egis’ position in Qatar, where the Group generated almost 33 million euros of turnover in 2014 from its contributions to a large number of infrastructure projects.

Qatar: Egis awarded design and construction supervision contracts for Um Alhoul Economic Zone, south of Doha

With several major infrastructure projects planned (railways, port, new towns, etc) and the preparation of the 2022 World Cup, Qatar wishes to encourage private sector investment and promote the diversification of its economy by creating three world-class industrial and logistic zones (excluding hydrocarbons).
This strategic project is part of Qatar National Vision 2030, supported by Emir Tamim ben Hamad ben Khalifa al-Thani, and aiming to deliver economic development in the country over the next 25 years.

 

Economic zones of international scope

The first two zones, Ras Bufontas and Al Karaana, will be located south of Doha airport whilst the third (QEZ 3), Um Alhoul, will be implanted in the port city of Al Waqrah, south of the capital.

Extending over an area of 27 sq.km, Um Alhoul will bring together a number of activities related to metallurgy, petrochemicals, construction materials, logistics and marine industries, also benefitting from sea access thanks to a dedicated canal.

Manateq, the autonomous state company established in 2011 by the Qatari Ministry of Business and Trade and responsible for promoting and operating these economic zones, awarded the construction management of this third zone to Egis.

A My City by Egis project

Over a period of 5 years, the teams from Egis will be tasked with auditing the master plan designs already drawn up, delivering detailed plans, carrying out specific design studies (from conceptual to preliminary design phase for buildings and water cooling and treatment plants) and the supervision of construction works.

The Um Alhoul QEZ 3 programme is a complex and innovative project which calls on the group’s skills through its My City by Egis offer, proving Egis’ ability to deliver urban development projects internationally.

Egis, in association with Systra, to carry out design studies for future metro in Medina, Saudi Arabia

The Medina Metro Development Authority (MMDA) has just awarded Egis, in association with Systra, a contract to carry out the design studies of the future metro network in Medina. The contract relates to three lines (green, blue, red) stretching a total of 95 km, including 25 km underground and 48 km overhead.

The project is part of an ambitious plan initiated over the past few years by Saudi Arabia to develop and modernise its transport infrastructure. As the second holiest city in the country, Medina has to deal with an influx of several million pilgrims each year.

The metro is due to enter into service in 2020, with the project divided up into two distinct phases.

 

The consortium’s assignments

The consortium will be tasked with carrying out the feasibility studies and the preliminary design for the metro, including the preparation of invitation to tender documentation for “Design and Build” contracts. Over a 12-month period, the project team based in Medina will draw on all of Egis’ expertise required for this huge project: civil engineering, architecture, environment, rolling stock, signalling, telecoms, operating strategy, etc.

This new contract comes as a complementary addition to the metro services provided currently by Egis in the Middle East in the fields of project management and works supervision contracts. Indeed, since 2013, Egis has been in charge of the project management and construction supervision of three lines of the future Riyadh metro, in partnership with Systra and the American firm Parsons. Egis is also active in Qatar on the project management of the Doha metro (civil engineering of its yellow line, civil engineering and equipment of Musheireb and Education City stations), and more recently on the project management of the overhead and ground-level sections of the Doha metro.

Olivier Bouvart appointed Chief Executive Officer of Egis Rail

On 4 March 2015, Olivier Bouvart was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Egis Rail. Previously Deputy CEO, he replaces Hubert Magnon-Pujo, who remains Executive Director of the “International and Major Projects” division.

 

Aged 49 and a graduate of Grenoble Management School, Olivier Bouvart has acquired 20 years of experience in the field of public transport and railway engineering, both in France and abroad.

Olivier Bouvart joined the Egis group in 1994 as administration and finance manager at the firm Scetautouroute. In 1996 he became Chief Financial Officer of Semaly (Lyon metro design consultancy) and supported its subsequent international development through the establishment of subsidiaries in Ireland, Portugal, the UK, Morocco and Singapore. In 2004, he was named Senior Executive Vice-President of the company.

In 2007, he was one of the key contributors to the development and growth of Egis Rail, the urban and rail transport specialist formed by the merger of Scetautouroute and Semaly. In 2009, he was appointed Deputy CEO of the organisation. He was then to deploy his expertise in the operational and financial management of the firm and its foreign subsidiaries, its strategy and its organic and external growth.

A leading figure in the development of Egis throughout the world, he most notably contributed to the establishment of the Group’s comprehensive offering in India, Brazil and the Middle East.

Olivier Bouvart is a member of the Egis group executive committee and of the boards of directors of Egis Algérie and Egis India. He is also a participant in the strategic committee of Egis Engenharia e Consultoria, the Brazilian subsidiary established in Curitiba.

Grand Paris Express: Egis to advise Société du Grand Paris for its communications activities

Egis, heading a group of firms also comprising Lowe Strateus (the corporate communications consultancy) and BDC Conseil (a transport-specialist project communications consultancy) has won a contract to assist Société du Grand Paris, the transport authority in charge of the future Grand Paris Express automatic metro, with all of its communications over the next five years.

 

The consortium will advise Société du Grand Paris in establishing its institutional communication strategy and its project-based communications.

It will be tasked with designing and implementing all of the Société’s corporate communication activities and steering the communications consultancies dealing with the different sections of the Grand Paris Express project. It will also manage the award, coordination and supervision of all of SGP’s contracts relating to its communications.

This contract is totally unprecedented in the fields of communications and the management of high value-added projects, in terms of both its scale and the wide range of professional specialities on which it will call.

From the very start, around twenty consultants and specialists from Egis will be allotted to the assignment and this headcount will be stepped up progressively.

With this contract, Egis reinforces its positioning as a leader in strategic consulting to regional authorities and major project developers.

Doha metro, Qatar : Egis, in association with Louis Berger, wins project management contract for all elevated and at grade sections of the Doha metro

Qatar Railways Company has just awarded the Louis Berger Egis Rail Joint Venture (LBER JV) project management of the elevated and at grade sections of the Doha metro.

 

 

This contract concerns extensions of the Red line towards the north and south, in addition to an extension of the Green line towards the west.

Involving construction of 16 km of metro, a large part on viaducts, and including 6 stations, civil engineering works for these extensions and their station fit out, all carried out as part of design development contracts with contractors, with completion scheduled for 2018.

More specifically the LBER JV is responsible for design review, supervision and commissioning of works and all project management responsibilities involved in an operation of this scale. To fulfil this mission the association LBER will put into action a team of up to 150 professionals over a period of 48 months.

This contract follows a first contract awarded in 2012, after an international tender process, involving project management of both the civil engineering works on the Gold metro line (boring of the tunnel running through the city centre of Doha, serving multiple stations), and civil engineering and fit out of 2 important network stations: Musheireb (in the city centre), intermodal node for the urban transport system and urban development hub, and Education City (West), which will in time enable connection of the urban transport and regional rail networks.

The Doha metro network is a major development directive for transport infrastructure in Qatar, particularly in view of accommodating the 2022 World Cup football. Implemented in 2 phases, this network will represent a total of 231 km by 2026, via the construction of 4 metro lines (Red, Blue, Green and Gold).

The first development phase will be operational by 2019, with the construction of 76 km of lines (60 km underground and 16 km elevated) and 26 stations. The metro network will link the airport to the city centre and to the future stadiums.
