Egis launches road safety campaign "Slow Down, Ukraine"

At 21st of September Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelyan in collaboration with the Egis experts of "Moderniza-tion and Safety Improvements of the Road Network in Ukraine" project, launched a national speed prevention campaign.

The campaign, which includes video and audio messaging, out-door adverts - billboards and city lights, posters, leaflets distrib-uted in gas stations around the country, targets male drivers ages 30-45. The nation-wide campaign will have a regional focus Zhy-tomyr, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Kharkiv, Khmelnytskyi, Kherson with the cities of Kyiv and Odessa also part of the awareness efforts to highlight the consequences of speed-related crashes and the im-portance of speed compliance among drivers, urging them to slow down.

According to the data presented within the “Road Safety Im-provements Strategy for the period up to year 2020 ” during 2011-2016, 170.000 road accidents with victims were registered in Ukraine, in which 26.000 people died and 210 000 people were injured.

"People need to know that speeding has consequences for all - the drivers, passengers, pedestrians and bicyclists. A 5% re-duction in average speed can result in a 20% reduction in the number of fatal crashes. We cannot afford to lose more people to this preventable problem and that’s why we want to warn the citizens to Focus and Slow Down because Speed Kills" said Eric Hoyrup, Team Leader of the project.
