The N25 Waterford By-Pass scheme was designed to ease the traffic congestion in Waterford City by providing Waterford with a second major bridge over the Suir and allowing traffic on the N25 Cork–Rosslare route to bypass the city.
The scheme opened in October 2009 and comprises approximately 23 km of dual carriageway, including a cable stayed bridge across the river Suir of approximately 475 m length. Two grade separated junctions and two at-grade roundabouts are included in the main by-pass. An open road toll system consisting of a 10 lane toll plaza is located just west of the Suir bridge.
