Opened in April 2004, the Dundalk Western Bypass scheme forms part of the strategic north-south road corridor Euroroute E01 connecting Dublin with Belfast.
It comprises a 53km motorway (2x2 traffic lanes) with 11 grade separated junctions, included a 350m span cable stayed bridge (Boyne River Bridge) and an open road toll system consisting of two toll plazas, one 12 lane plaza south of Drogheda and a second, 4 lane ramp plaza north of Drogheda.
