With a population of more than 4 million, Guadalajara currently has a network consisting of two lines. Line 3 will link the city centre to the south east of the city, servicing the municipalities of Guadalajara, Tlaquepaque and Zapopan. With 18 stations, there is a total of 21 kilometres of line, including 5.5 kilometres underground and almost 15 kilometres of suspended structures.

The metro line is scheduled to be in service mid-2018, civil engineering works having already started in March 2015.

The project is part of the ambitious National Development Plan 2013-2018, which places particular emphasis on improved mobility in the country's biggest cities, notably via the development of different modes of rail transport.

Partnership assignments

The partnership will be responsible for supervision of works for all systems (track, energy, signalling, telecommunications and rolling stock). Works will be undertaken by a consortium made up of Alstom and Mexico Constructora de Proyectos Viales (OHL group).

Several types of assignments are scheduled including; RAMS (reliability, availability maintainability and safety), ISA (international standards on auditing) and managing testing until the line is operational. The experience of Egis as an ISA auditor played a role in the partnership being retained for the assignment.

Over 34 months the project team, composed of 25 key experts and multiple support engineers, will utilize the expertise of Egis and Transconsult necessary for a project of this size: track, rolling stock, signals, telecommunication, energy and catenary, electromechanical systems for overhead structures and tunnels, ISA and RAMS, etc. With its significant knowledge of the local context and technical know-how, Transconsult teams will actively participate in coordination of the different teams.

This contract confirms the active presence of Egis and Transconsult in Mexico and their desire to become leading engineers in this country.
