Egis awarded for the quality of its fire response in the Eurasia tunnel

Egis Tünel İşletmeciliği, the operating company in charge of the Eurasia tunnel in Turkey, has received an award from the concession company ATAŞ for its efficient fire response management in the tunnel.

Eurasia Tunnel is 5.4 km single tube tunnel connecting the 2 sides of Istanbul by passing under the Bosphorus.

Located in the heart of the city with more than 18 million inhabitants and many visitors, the tunnel handles more than 50,000 vehicles every day.

Egis is responsible for the full operation and maintenance of the tunnel, including the management of the control centre, incident response, including fire, and towing if necessary. Egis is also responsible for all maintenance activities, except for heavy repairs and replacement activities.

Since the start of operations in January 2017, Egis has been involved in the management of nearly 3,500 incidents.

Fires are among the most important incidents in a tunnel. On each occasion, Egis' first aid teams, equipped with fire extinguishing equipment, were on site within minutes and were able to extinguish the fires at a very early stage.

After having attended several successful fire responses recently, the General Manager of the concession company ATAŞ, Mr. Ho Eun Hong presented an award to Mr. Kıvanç Güvenler, General Manager of Egis Tünel İşletmeciliği. Egis proud to sponsor a scholarship with the University of Balamand in Lebanon

Egis announces winning recipient of EUR 5,000 scholarship for an undergraduate aeronautics student of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Balamand in Lebanon.

Egis continues to celebrate 50 years in aviation and has announced its third scholarship for a student in an aviation-related degree – this time in the Middle East. Winning recipient this year is Hussam El Omari, a BS Aeronautical Engineering student who will be entering his senior year starting the Fall 2021 semester.

Egis and the University of Balamand have agreed to award the scholarship on academic merit and performance. Scholarship eligibility was limited to students on low incomes and taking a degree in the Institute of Aeronautics, within the Faculty of Engineering. The EUR 5,000 scholarship will cover the 2020/2021 academic year and take care of the student’s University fees.

Jacques Khoriaty, Egis Middle East Chief Commercial Officer said: “As a leading consultancy and engineering company in aviation, we want to support the next generation of experts and engineers. This scholarship is helping some talented youngsters to follow their ambitions, without it being dependent upon their financial status or backgrounds. It also makes perfect sense for us to support students in the Middle East, where Egis has been working with partners and customers for more than 40 years. We believe in the University of Balamand’s commitment to train highly talented individuals who will contribute to the aviation sector. Mr Hussam El Omari has an impressive academic record and is also involved in many extracurricular activities, including with charity. His profile is perfectly aligned with the spirit and purpose of the Egis scholarship.

Professor Rami J Abboud, Vice President for Internationalisation & Engagement and Dean of Faculty of Engineering at the University of Balamand added: “I’m proud to see one of our top students, Hussam El Omari, receive this prestigious scholarship from Egis. Hussam has, in my opinion, a promising and a bright future ahead of him. He is dedicated, talented, and hard-working, all qualities of an exemplary student. As a university, we are committed to working with well reputed international partners like Egis, to promote the internationalization of our programs and to add value to our students’ experience. I’m very thankful for Egis for this generous scholarship and I hope it will serve as a precursor for future collaboration”.

In 2019 Egis awarded its inaugural scholarship to Nicolas Tigranoff, engineering student at the Ecole Nationale d'Aviation Civile (ENAC), France. In 2020, the scholarship went to Thierry-Picard Assouanou Kouassi, a student of Institut National Polytechnique Félix Houphouët-Boigny (INP-HB) in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

Egis to project manage the renovation of aeronautical pavements at Strasbourg airport

The project management role spans complete design through to works supervision for the runway, stop ways, taxiways and apron. Egis was chosen for its expertise in aeronautical pavements and airport safety, and ability to support and advise Strasbourg Airport with this large-scale project.

The project is part of an overall programme worth €14.5M over five years to renovate Strasbourg-Entzheim airport's pavements and ensure compliance with European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) regulations.

Egis services will include: refurbishment of aeronautical pavements, rainwater collection and management, civil engineering of utilities, lighting and aeronautical signage. In addition, Egis will undertake studies on the runway and taxiway strip, the runway end safety area and the precision approach lighting system. Regulatory and administrative assistance related to environmental aspects will also be provided.
As the airport has only one runway, it will be closed to air traffic during works, which of course will need to be carried out in the shortest possible time. This will require a high level of responsiveness and availability from Egis in its role as project manager, as well as excellent coordination with the various services and stakeholders at the airport. Works on other non-runway infrastructure will be undertaken while traffic is maintained.

Egis has recognised expertise in the design and management of works for aeronautical infrastructures, which has already been successfully implemented at airports such as Toulouse-Blagnac, Saint-Nazaire, Carcassonne and Pau in France. On some projects, we had to deliver work with traffic maintained, like in Tahiti-Faa'a airport in French Polynesia and Pointe-Noire in Congo.

Laurent Germain, CEO of Egis, appointed chairman of the MEDEF International France-Ukraine Business Council

“I am very proud to have been appointed chairman of the France-Ukraine Business Council and to be able to continue to pursue the actions initiated by my predecessor, Nicolas Jachiet, who held this position since 2017.

Ukraine occupies a special position in the international development of the Egis group, as it constitutes our regional pivot for our activities in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. In the space of 25 years, we have become a leading player in the road and railway transport markets in Ukraine. We wish to expand this position to all our specialities, most notably by supporting the substantial investment planned by France in infrastructure. We are also actively monitoring the national prospects for the development of road and airport concessions and we intend to develop further in the energy field for the benefit of the whole region. In fact, our Kiev office will be our base from which, alongside our partner EDF, we will soon be leading the project to modernise the Uch-Kurgan hydroelectric power plant in Kyrgyzstan. This project is absolutely essential for regional energy security and to reduce carbon emissions in Central Asia. Harnessing our experience in the region, I look forward to accompanying and supporting the development of economic partnerships and cooperation between France and Ukraine,” comments Laurent Germain.

MEDEF International, the leading French private sector business network operating worldwide, conducts collective actions through its France-Ukraine Business Council to promote French solutions on the Ukrainian market. MEDEF International has been active in Ukraine since 1991, the year in which contacts were established with the country’s new political, economic and business leaders. MEDEF International, alongside the French and Ukrainian authorities, accompanies and supports the development of economic and industrial partnerships and cooperation based on areas of complementarity and shared interests and which deliver successful results on the Ukrainian market. MEDEF International has led 12 French company missions in Ukraine and welcomed around 50 public and private decision-makers. Since 2010, it has been a member of the France-Ukraine joint commission.

Laurent Germain began his career at the French Ministry of Economy and Finance. In 2004 he became Adviser to the Minister for Research, Mr. François d’Aubert, in charge of budgetary affairs. In 2005 he was appointed Chief Financial Officer of the French National Centre of Space Studies (CNES). He also chaired the board of CLS, a subsidiary of CNES. In 2014 he joined Segula Technologies, a global engineering and technology consulting group, as CEO. He has been CEO of Egis since July 2020.

An alumnus of Sciences Po Paris, Laurent Germain holds degrees from the ESSEC business school and the Ecole Nationale d’Administration (2000 cohort).
