Managing works on one of the busiest commuter routes in the UK.
The Great Eastern Railway Overhead Line Renewal Project between London Liverpool Street and Chelmsford - representing approximately 100 miles of track - was an extremely challenging project due to the complex nature of the existing infrastructure and the need to carefully manage the interface between the programme of works and ongoing railway operations on one of the busiest commuter routes in the UK.
The installation of a new auto tensioned overhead line equiptmemt (OLE) system required the design and installation of 288 new wire runs, 500+ tubular steel foundations, 207 overhead line structures, as well as the management of several delivery contractors and balancing of various stakeholders’ priorities to avoid conflict with ongoing rail operations and third party works.
Network Rail (NR) commissioned Egis to act as principal contractor, relying on its proven technical expertise, collaborative working method and reputation for simplifying the complex.
Egis was asked to deliver project, construction and contract management, planning, document control, engineering, procurement, commercial and administration services.
The team was also responsible for application reviews, processing payments, administering change, validating insurance policies, complying with contractual notifications and providing contractual advice across several packages of works and services including OHL - design and instalaltion, welfare and maintenance, foundation and piling design and installation, and steel structure installation
A complex project, with Egis as the perfect fit for NR.
