Following on from the feasibility study for the vast hydraulic engineering project for flood prevention in the sector known as La Bassée, upstream of the confluence of the Seine and Yonne rivers, Egis, in a consortium with Ashurst, provided general PMC services for this project.
The aim of the La Bassée engineering work is to improve the protection of the Paris region against damage arising from simultaneous floods on the Seine and Yonne rivers, a phenomenon responsible, notably, for the catastrophic flooding in Paris in January 1910. The work would involve the building of several storage units (basins temporarily retaining the flood waters), with a total capacity of 55 million m3.
Provision of these services was entrusted to the Egis /Ashurst consortium and comprised consultancy and management, including general overseeing of the project, assistance in developing the programme, selection of a lead contractor and awarding of works contacts, as well as assistance with administrative procedures land acquisition steps and public consultation and communication.
