Design & Construction Supervision and Independent Safety Assessment of the Guadalajara metro line 3 asserting Egis’s position on the Latin American transportation market

Saturday 12th september, the third line Guadalajara metro has been inaugurated in presence of the Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. The line run between the city centre and the north west and south east suburbs.

Project overview

The second largest city in Mexico with more than 4 million inhabitants, Guadalajara is an important economic and cultural hub in the country. The widespread metropolitan region has a transport network which includes two metro lines.

Line 3 have 18 stations and stretch 20.9 km. It run between the city centre and the north west and south east suburbs, providing services to the municipalities of Zapopan, Guadalajara and Tlaquepaque. The majority of the track (14,9 km) run on a viaduct, with a further 5.5 km in a tunnel, and tunnel-viaduct transitions of 0.6 km. The journey time between the 2 extreme stations is around 35 minutes.

This project is part of the ambitious National Development Plan for by the Ministry Communication and Transport (SCT) which places specific emphasis on improving mobility in the country’s major cities, most notably through the development of different tracked transport modes.

Our missions

Egis was appointed as part of a consortium formed with Transconsult, for the supervision of the design, construction and commissioning of all the systems of line 3, as well as civil engineering, the maintenance depot’s systems and maintenance machines, interface management and the ISA (Independent Safety  Assessment) assignment for the entire programme.

The supervision consisted of inspecting each development phase, checking design studies, conducting site inspections, factory acceptance, handover operations, testing and commissioning. The management of interfaces for 7 works contracts involved in the construction of this new metro line must be added to the group's field of intervention.

The project team, composed of 25 key experts and multiple support engineers, has used all their skills for the success of this large-scale project.
