An international project with a European structure and a site located in France

The ENGAGE consortium, composed of Egis and with three other engineering firms (English, French and Spanish), is tasked from 2011 to 2018 with a project management consultancy mission and the engineering, procurement and construction management across in all specialities for the construction of the entire site. Their joint efforts have today been rewarded by the prestigious "Industry and Technology Prize" in the 2017 French National Engineering Awards (GPNI).

Project overview

The "ITER" project (standing for International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) is an experimental nuclear fusion reactor built to verify the scientific and technical feasibility of nuclear fusion as a new energy source. The EPCM mission covers 33 technical buildings and areas relating to the fusion process, electricity transformer stations, links between buildings and associated infrastructure over an area of 180 hectares. The buildings include "Tokamak", the centre of the project. A particular feature of the mission is the integration of processes into building design, bearing in mind that the processes are prototypes at different stages of their development. Six of the buildings are classified as nuclear buildings (Tokamak and adjacent buildings).

Our missions

The Engage consortium's mission was to provide management support to the project owner and EPCM services covering all trades for construction of the entire complex, including in the following specialist areas: architecture, civil and structural engineering, fire protection systems, heating, HVAC, electricity, special fluids, overhead hoists, elevators, roads and utilities. The contract also includes PMC services.
