Located at the centre of a social housing development built in the 1950s and belonging to France's national rail company, SNCF, the project site was an entirely built-up area without its own unique character. Upgrading the social housing units allowed a small park to be created.
The garden creates a perspective by establishing a sort of rolling “carpet of vegetation" supported by low, matrix-concrete walls. Each fold in the “carpet” conceals green “rooms” and the scenography helps to sustain this intimate atmosphere, offering plenitude and a feeling of freshness. An east-west path for school children links the educational establishments on either side of the park. This wooden-parquet pathway links a series of children's play areas, the keeper's house, and wooden benches and solarium, etc.
This park project won gold with the Victoire d'Or award at the Victoire du Paysage 2012 competition, in the public parks and gardens category. The overarching project for the ZAC des Champs Philippe won the national arturbain.fr 2011 prize, witha commendation for its contribution to the “quality of social life”.
