Project management for the Doha metro, Qatar

To be able to accommodate the some 800,000 visitors expected for the 2022 World Cup football tournament, Qatar has undertaken the construction of a number of stadiums and the development of its public transport system. In August 2012, Egis, working with Louis Berger, won the contract to manage the project for the first construction phase of the Doha metro.

Client: Qatar Railways Company
Duration of the contract: February 2019 - August 2012

Project overview

When the first work phase is completed this automatic metro system will comprise four lines, 76 km of track (of which 55 km underground and 17 km on viaducts) and 28 stations. It will link the airport to the business centre and future stadiums. Commissioning is planned for 2018, followed by two other implementation phases for a full 230 km network in 2030.
