Centralising all the biology laboratories of Marseille’s hospitals on a single site is the challenge facing Egis teams, in association with the architecture firm Ragueneau & Roux (lead contractor) and the practice CFL Architecture (Gilles Feraud), to transform the ageing Timone hospital into a leading technical platform for healthcare and innovation.
This project is part of the strategy of the Marseille hospital authority (AP-HM) to rehabilitate its real estate assets. It thus aims to rationalise space in order to deploy cutting-edge equipment and standardise its analysis facilities within a large and modern technical platform aiming to promote and stimulate innovation capacities in research.
The Biogénopôle will also host the cell culture and therapy laboratory which will give patients access to particularly innovative therapies (medicinal cells).
The laboratory’s automated technical platform will centralise the collection of all samples taken in the North, Conception and Timone hospitals, chiefly by automated pneumatic conveyance.
AP-HM awarded Egis with the full project management of technical lots, planning, scheduling and coordination, combined drawings and deconstruction and asbestos removal.
Egis is also tasked with the deployment of the logistical transport solution in the three main hospitals of Marseille. This innovative solution provides for a pneumatic conveyance system that will run along the tunnels of the metro, thanks to a partnership between the city’s public transport body RTM and AP-HM under a sustainability initiative aiming to avoid superfluous road transportation.
This solution will increase accessibility and reduce timeframes for construction whilst also avoiding disruption to the neighbourhood. Work will be carried out during the night when the metro is closed.
