Tell us about U-Cycle, in a few sentences:
U-Cycle, the Kyiv Cyclists’ Association, is a leading NGO advocating for cycling infrastructure development, road safety, and the promotion of cycling as a mode of transport in Ukraine since 2007.
U-Cycle is committed to fostering safe and convenient cycling experiences. It stands for yoU, Urban, Ukraine.
Why did you join the association?
I joined U-Cycle driven by a motivation to foster safer, happier, and healthier communities not just for myself but for future generations. I believe that cycling holds one of the keys to achieving this vision. Meaningful urban transformations are powered by individuals with a vision and the drive to enact change. U-Cycle embodies this spirit, uniting a passionate community with a shared values and commitment to positive change, both locally and internationally.
I've found fulfillment in being part of this effort contributing to notable achievements such as influencing street construction standards, enhancing traffic regulations, shaping urban policies, and engaging in educational initiatives.
An achievement? A proud moment you lived through this commitment with U-Cycle?
Together with partner organisations and supporters of #BikesForUkraine initiative we delivered more than 1.5 thousand bicycles to medical and communal workers, volunteers and children on the Ukrainian territories. We have made humanitarian and other help more accessible to those who are in need. I was happy to witness how lives of children that lived through horrible stress became little bit brighter.
I am also very proud our extraordinary team developed and introduced an education program “Cycling to School” on road safety for schools with the Ministry of Education and Science.
