The North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) is set for a significant upgrade as Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) and NLEX Corporation plan to implement barrierless, multi-lane free flow tolling by 2027. This modernization initiative will be supported by Egis, which has played a pivotal role in the NLEX toll system since its inception, consistently delivering technical expertise and innovative solutions. This project marks a major step toward faster, more efficient, and fully digital expressway travel in the Philippines.
Under the new system, toll barriers will be completely removed. Instead, vehicles will pass through smart gantries equipped with RFID scanners, automatic license plate recognition cameras, and advanced sensors that enable contactless, real-time toll collection — all without requiring drivers to slow down or stop.
The multi-lane free flow project aims to significantly reduce congestion at toll plazas, streamline traffic flow, and enhance the overall driving experience for motorists, particularly during rush hours and holiday seasons.
With implementation targeted for 2027, the barrierless NLEX system promises to deliver a faster, smoother, and smarter journey for every motorist — setting a new standard for expressway operations in the country.
