At Egis, we believe in the power of personal growth and the impact of supportive leadership. Over the past year, the journey of Angelyn Ong, Assistant Legal Manager in the Philippines, highlights how determination, adaptability and management support can lead to a remarkable transformation.
A New Chapter
Angelyn joined Egis in March 2023, bringing valuable experience from law firms and a local construction conglomerate company. Initially, she faced the challenge of adapting to the nuances of an international corporate setting at Egis. However, this was the turning point for her growth. Rather than being daunted, Angelyn embraced the opportunity to acquire new skills and expand her professional network.
Empowering Change and Fostering Growth
As Angelyn settled into her role, she recognized the importance of not just fulfilling her responsibilities but also making impactful changes. She actively sought out external training and development opportunities, showcasing her dedication to continuous improvement. This proactive approach marked a significant shift in her career trajectory.
A pivotal moment came when she received crucial support from her immediate supervisor, Teresa Au Yeung, the General Counsel of APAC. Teresa granted Angelyn greater discretion in fulfilling her role, fostering a sense of ownership and accountability for her responsibilities in the Philippines. This empowerment was a game-changer. Teresa noted, “I recognized that Angelyn had the potential to excel. By empowering her with authority and providing clear expectations, I aimed to build her confidence. The transformation I witnessed was incredible — she truly stepped up to the challenge.”
This support catalyzed Angelyn's transformation. With renewed confidence, she embraced her responsibilities fully, making significant contributions to the team and the organization. Her perseverance and proactive approach not only helped her navigate challenges but also allowed her to innovate in her role.
In her role as Ethics Correspondent for the Philippines, Angelyn actively participated in leading the ISO 37001 certification alongside our Country Managing Director for the Philippines, Thomas Bieche. She monitors corporate entities and handles Dilitrust, provides legal advice in corporate governance matters, and takes care of legal matters in the Philippines.
Looking Ahead
As Angelyn continues to excel in her role, her journey serves as a testament to the power of determination, adaptability and mentorship. Her story illustrates a clear transformation: from a newcomer facing uncertainty to a confident team player making meaningful contributions.
Thomas added, “Angelyn’s journey showcases the positive impact of investing in our people. Her agility and personal development demonstrate our commitment to nurturing talent within Egis. I’m proud of the progress she has achieved and look forward to seeing her continue to thrive and succeed.”
Inspiring Future Growth
Angelyn’s story is not just about personal achievement; it’s a powerful reminder of the impact of nurturing talent. By celebrating her transformation, we aim to inspire others within the organization to embrace their own paths of growth. Together, let’s continue fostering an environment where everyone can flourish and make meaningful contributions.
