Egis, a global leader in architecture, consulting, construction engineering, and mobility services, has been appointed to provide technical assessment services for the powerhouse building at Belawan New Container Terminal (BNCT) along the Malacca Strait in Indonesia. This initiative aims to enhance the resilience and operational efficiency of one of the world’s busiest maritime shipping routes.
BNCT, a consortium comprising DP World, Pelindo, and the Indonesia Investment Authority, plays a pivotal role in regional and international supply chains, facilitating efficient cargo handling and trade connectivity. The powerhouse serves as a critical facility supporting terminal operations and overall infrastructure resilience at this port.
As the technical partner, Egis will guide the evaluation of the building’s current condition and develop strategies for sustainable operations. Egis will conduct comprehensive soil investigations to uncover subsurface characteristics influencing the building's integrity, alongside Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods to evaluate materials without disrupting operations. These efforts will inform technically sound improvement options aligned with the terminal's operational needs.
This assignment builds on Egis’ continued engagement in port and infrastructure projects in Indonesia, reinforcing its commitment to resilient and sustainable infrastructure across the region. Egis’ multidisciplinary expertise ensures adherence to international best practices, promoting durability and efficiency in one of Asia Pacific's key maritime hubs.
