Egis’ radioactive waste management and decommissioning consultancy arm Galson Sciences Limited (GSL), has secured positions on a new multi-billion-pound framework led by Amentum to deliver expert decommissioning and remediation solutions for the Sellafield nuclear site in the United Kingdom.
As one of the partners under Lot 1 of the 15-year Decommissioning and Nuclear Waste Partnership (DNWP), the Amentum-led team will be carrying out remediation work and retrieval of hazardous waste on the Sellafield site in Cumbria, England. The DNWP framework covers both operational nuclear facilities and those undergoing post-operational cleanout, decommissioning and demolition.
After competitive tendering, Sellafield Ltd selected Amentum and its Key Supply Chain Members (KSCMs), including GSL and Egis, as the remediation partner.
Focusing on strategic, technical and programme delivery of waste-led decommissioning, the work includes the demolition and clearance of radioactively contaminated buildings and preparatory decommissioning works on some of the UK’s oldest nuclear reactor complexes and fuel handling facilities.
As part of the Egis Group, GSL brings a comprehensive suite of technical capabilities to optimise waste management strategies – applying its UK-leading expertise in the development of innovative waste treatment routes and the optimisation of site end states and on-site disposal to deliver cost savings and environmental benefits, developing first-of-a-kind site-wide and facility-specific environmental safety cases.
