Egis is delighted to announce its receipt of the prestigious Climate and Resilience Adaptation Award for the Mobile Advanced Road Weather Information Sensors (MARWIS) project, presented at the International Road Federation (IRF) World Congress in Istanbul, in October 2024.
This award recognises Egis’s commitment to sustainability and resilience in road infrastructure, particularly on the Gebze-Izmir motorway in Turkey, where MARWIS technology has significantly enhanced operational safety and efficiency through proactive weather monitoring and responsive maintenance.
The IRF World Congress awards showcase innovation, sustainability, and safety in the road and mobility sectors by honouring exemplary projects, initiatives, and tools that make a lasting impact. The Climate and Resilience Adaptation category specifically celebrates projects that address climate-related challenges, including extreme weather and temperature fluctuations, while supporting sustainable transport infrastructures. Egis’s MARWIS project stands out for its ability to transform winter maintenance operations with real-time, data-driven weather monitoring and resource optimisation.
Installed on patrol vehicles along the Gebze-Izmir Motorway, MARWIS sensors detect local weather changes and enable timely, precise interventions. The technology allows Egis to monitor critical motorway areas, such as bridges and intersections, enhancing productivity and reducing costs while ensuring efficient use of resources like salt and brine to maintain safe traffic flow during winter months. By accurately forecasting icy conditions, these mobile sensors support targeted de-icing treatments, minimising environmental impact and maximising road safety. Through the continuous analysis of comprehensive weather and road condition data, MARWIS enables EGIS to anticipate and prepare for adverse weather events more effectively, reducing disruptions and ensuring safer travel conditions for both motorists and staff.
This IRF recognition underscores Egis’s role as a leader in sustainable innovation within the road and transport sectors, contributing to global goals for resilient infrastructure.
