Egis, a leading global operations, mobility services, architectural, consulting and construction engineering firm, has been awarded a major national contract by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) to deliver the United Kingdom’s Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) compliance and enforcement service.
This multi-year agreement represents a significant strategic win for Egis, which has significantly strengthened its UK operations in recent years through organic growth and acquisitions. The contract will welcome approximately 300 staff, mostly via the TUPE process.
The DVLA collects more than £8.4 billion in vehicle tax annually and relies on accurate, reliable compliance activity to protect public funds. With 98% of motorists paying their tax on time, the service ensures fairness for compliant road users and supports the safety of the UK’s transport network.
Under the contract, Egis will oversee national operations across the UK, including Northern Ireland. The service will cover the full enforcement process, including issuing warning notices, immobilising and removing vehicles, and managing their storage and disposal.
To support these operations, Egis will deploy a fleet of vehicles equipped with automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology to identify untaxed and non compliant vehicles in real time. This will be complemented by a fleet of specialist removal vehicles, all meeting enhanced environmental and safety standards. Egis will upgrade the current fleet with lower emission vehicles and sustainable operating practices, supporting government carbon reduction and air quality objectives.
Improvements to analytics and faster reporting will strengthen the accuracy of identifying non compliant vehicles, giving DVLA teams clearer insights into patterns of evasion.
Operations will cover every postcode in the UK. While data will help identify areas with higher levels of non compliance, Egis and the DVLA will maintain consistent standards nationwide to ensure equitable treatment for all road users.
The contract builds on Egis’s wider expertise in mobility and compliance services, including the delivery of speed enforcement operations in Ireland and digital mobility programmes in cities across Europe.
The contract will commence on 1 February 2027. Egis is currently in the mobilisation period.
