From July 13 to 17, 2026, MRO Golfo Centro held its first Road Safety Week near the Tejocotal toll plaza, creating an opportunity to engage directly with road users and discuss the risks we all face when travelling on the road.
The initiative focused on situations that are part of every journey: the decisions we make behind the wheel, how we drive through work zones or incident areas, and the importance of protecting those who work on the road every day.
Three topics that can make a difference
During the event, the Golfo Centro teams spoke with road users about some of the main driving-related risk factors: speeding, fatigue, alcohol consumption, mobile phone use and maintaining a safe following distance.
Particular emphasis was also placed on driving through work zones and accident areas, where reducing speed and keeping a safe distance from road workers and operational vehicles is essential.
The third topic focused on the work that takes place on the road itself. For those using the motorway, a roadside assistance vehicle or a person working along the road may only be part of the landscape for a few seconds. For our teams, this is their workplace and an essential part of the operation.
Discussing these topics directly with road users made it possible to explain what goes on behind the services they encounter during their journeys, while also listening to their questions, experiences and feedback.
A first edition that opened the dialogue
To make it easier for users to engage, the team offered coffee and a snack to those who stopped to participate. This created a more open and approachable setting for discussing road safety.
As a complement to the initiative, a paramedic was also available to provide blood pressure checks and share recommendations to help prevent dehydration during the season.
In total, 175 road users stopped and took part in the initiative, a particularly positive result for its first edition.
Beyond the number, the event created a direct connection with the people who use the motorway and an opportunity to share safety information from the perspective of those who operate the road every day.
The leadership behind the initiative
The preparation and execution of this first Road Safety Week were coordinated by Ismael Esquivel Rosas, Tejocotal Plaza Manager, together with his team.
His leadership was key to coordinating the plaza's participation and ensuring the initiative was carried out effectively, creating an approachable and accessible space for road users.
These initiatives also highlight the value of the experience within our operations teams: people who understand road conditions firsthand, identify the needs of their surroundings and turn an initiative into a concrete action with the people who use the road.
Safety also means anticipating risks
Road safety is an essential part of responsible operations. Creating awareness initiatives such as Road Safety Week allows us to address risks before they become incidents and maintain close communication with the people who share the road.
The first edition in Golfo Centro is a step towards strengthening this culture of prevention, bringing the conversation directly to road users and promoting safer interaction between those travelling on the motorway and those working on it.
