Fulton Hogan Egis (FHE), the joint venture Company between Fulton Hogan and Egis, celebrates a decade of maintaining and managing incident response services for WestConnex in Sydney - one of Australia’s most significant transport infrastructure assets, operated by Transurban.
Since the early O&M involvement during the design and construction of WestConnex, FHE has grown into one of the most experienced integrated motorway operations teams in the country. Today, more than 140 dedicated FHE employees work around the clock to keep motorists safe and traffic flowing across five major Sydney motorways — the M4, M5 East, M8 Motorway, M4–M8 Link, and Rozelle Interchange.
This combined network includes 43 kilometres of tunnels and extensive open motorway sections that collectively carry more than 8 million vehicles every month.
Since operational commencement, FHE has responded to over 35,000 incidents, whilst averaging less than 10 minutes per response, responding to breakdowns, crashes, medical emergencies, and complex traffic disruptions. These rapid-response operations are supported by proactive maintenance teams working 24/7 on 230,000 assets to ensure asset reliability, tunnel safety systems, and critical infrastructure operate at world-class standards.
In 2024, FHE reached another significant milestone, being awarded the ongoing contract for long-term asset management of the M6 Stage 1 Motorway in Sydney. This contract reflects FHE’s ability to combine global best-practice asset management with real-world, hands-on operations and maintenance experience gained from a decade on the WestConnex network, as well as the global network of road O&M companies of its shareholders.
“This milestone reflects an extraordinary decade of teamwork, commitment, and shared purpose,” said Aedan Hewitt, General Manager of Fulton Hogan Egis. “Our people work day and night to protect customers and keep Sydney moving safely. Safety is our foundation. Every incident responded to, and asset maintained and available highlights that commitment.”
The strong, long-term partnership with Transurban has been central to achieving consistently high performance across the network. Together, they have delivered continual improvements in tunnel operations, incident response technology, and maintenance standards, all while supporting Sydney’s growing transport demands.
FHE remains committed to delivering world-class operational performance as Sydney’s transport network continues to expand and evolve.
