Egis has been actively supporting Gatwick airport with its noise management initiatives since 2016, with 11 different initiatives resulting in up to 12% reduction in noise for local communities.
Last year, the airport made further progress on its noise management goals after Egis conducted a thorough review and update of the Airline Noise Performance Table. We reduced the number of source files and simplified data pre-processing.
The new streamlined performance table is now presented as an interactive dashboard available to the public on Gatwick’s website. The fully automated PowerBI dashboard facilitates quarterly data imports from Gatwick’s team, providing quick insights into performance metrics and enabling the analysis of performance overall, and by airline.
For the public, it offers a user-friendly interface to filter, visualize, and compare the performance of different airlines, across different quarters/years, by runway direction or route usage. Gatwick has elevated the effectiveness of the performance table by actively engaging with airlines, resulting in significant overall performance improvements. For example, an airline that commenced operations in Q4 2021 initially had a Continuous Descent Operations (CDO) percentage of 19% in December 2021. After being engaged twice by the Gatwick Airspace Office (Feb 2022 and Aug 2022), their CDO performance increased to 78% in August 2022.The Airline Noise Performance Table serves as a valuable tool for identifying underperforming airlines and fostering continuous improvement, leading to notable enhancements in noise reduction for the local area.
The table is set to evolve continually, with the addition of new metrics to maintain relevance, effectiveness, and transparency. For more information, read our case study covering our work supporting Gatwick Airport on noise management, or contact communications.aviation@egis-group.com
