A flagship European canal steps onto the international stage
The Seine-Nord Europe Canal is now reaching a global audience through a dedicated digital feature produced by The B1M, a leading construction and engineering media platform followed by more than one million subscribers worldwide. This rare level of visibility offers a new perspective on one of Europe’s most ambitious infrastructure programmes, whose scale and strategic impact are often understood mainly within industry circles.
Led by the Société du Canal Seine-Nord Europe, the infrastructure spans 107 kilometres and is designed to transform freight transport flows across the continent. By strengthening inland waterway connections, it supports the transition towards more sustainable logistics while addressing long-term capacity and decarbonisation challenges.
Revealing the engineering behind complex canal infrastructure
Through a dedicated mini documentary, The B1M brings into focus the technical complexity and operational ambition of the canal. The feature highlights the design and construction challenges involved in delivering major hydraulic infrastructure at this scale, offering unprecedented insight into how engineering, environment and logistics must be aligned from the earliest stages.
At the core of this programme, Egis and its partners are responsible for the design and supervision of five major locks, including two among the highest in Europe. These structures play a central role in ensuring reliable navigation and fluid traffic across the network.
Egis mobilises multidisciplinary expertise that combines hydraulics, civil engineering and systems integration. The teams deploy innovative design approaches to reduce transit time while optimising resource use. Environmental performance is embedded at every stage, from material reuse strategies to advanced water saving systems.
Strengthening project value through global visibility
This international media exposure reflects both the strategic importance of the Seine-Nord Europe Canal and the growing interest in infrastructure solutions that balance performance and sustainability. By showcasing the project to a broad and engaged audience, The B1M feature reinforces its role as a key asset in Europe’s transport network.
For Egis, it highlights an ability to deliver complex infrastructure by orchestrating expertise, engineering innovation and collaborative delivery. It also demonstrates how large scale projects can create long term value by improving logistics efficiency while supporting environmental commitments.
