On May 10, 2026, in the presence of Mr. Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, and Mr. William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, Kenya Railways Corporation signed a major contract in Nairobi for the modernization of the Nairobi Central Station – Embakasi Village railway line (Line 5).
The civil engineering and railway infrastructure package will be executed by a consortium composed of UNIFER, CIM (Compagnie Internationale de Maintenance), Egis, and Infras Group, bringing together complementary expertise in engineering, systems, and railway works.
A structural project for urban mobility. The rehabilitation of infrastructure, modernization of signaling systems, and automation of level crossings will sustainably improve the capacity, safety, and reliability of rail transport in Nairobi.
A strengthened French-Kenyan partnership. This project illustrates the strength of cooperation between France and Kenya in developing modern, high-performance transport infrastructure.
A project serving sustainable mobility. The modernization of Line 5 will promote a more reliable and sustainable alternative to road transport, incorporating best practices in safety, innovation, and environmental performance.
