Over the holidays, the public were able to walk along brand new platforms at Lyon Part-Dieu station. With the involvement of our Conseil by Egis team, here's a brief rundown of the project that has been recently completed.
The multi-modal exchange hub
The Lyon Part-Dieu district is now at the heart of the economic life of the Lyon Metropolitan area.
Based on the findings of saturation and the objectives of getting locals back to the TER lines, the first prospective studies on the Lyon railway node were launched in 2009 in order to imagine what could become the most complex railway node in France, with a concentration of twelve lines. Lyon Part-Dieu station is one of the three most constrained sectors of the Lyon Railway Node (LRN).
The Multimodal Interchange Centre (Pôle d'échanges multimodal - PEM) is part of this dense and central context of one of the most dynamic districts of the Metropolitan area, and provides a genuine representation of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Acting as the main business district and major gateway to the Lyon, the Part-Dieu district has embarked on a major review to enhance its attractiveness.
This district and this interchange hub, which are undergoing major changes in terms of modernisation, several project owners (SNCF Réseau, SNCF stations and connections to SNCF) are working together to achieve common objectives in order to strengthen and make current and future travel more reliable. Part-Dieu station, the central point of the interchange, is now largely saturated.
Faced with the increase in passenger numbers, the EMP redevelopment project includes several large-scale operations such as the creation of Lane L and the creation of the Pompidou access points.
Recently, platforms A/B and E/F at Lyon Part-Dieu station were returned to commercial operation. The canopies and platform installations (lighting, passenger information, etc.) on the southern part of these platforms have been refurbished. Accesses from Rue Pompidou have been created and will be available when the Pompidou gallery is opened.
These new entrances will eventually relieve congestion in the historic gallery and improve access to the platforms.
At the same time, the creation of the new track (L track) is in the civil engineering phase. The main purpose of this work is to improve traffic flow and train regularity. The civil engineering work on the south side of the track has been completed and the work on the north side is underway.
