AviaDev, the annual event dedicated to airports and connectivity will be heading to Zanzibar in June 2025. Egis and joint venture SEGAP*, who have been supporting the airport since 2021 through a technical services agreement, played a key role in the selection of Zanzibar as the venue for the event.
The event will be co-hosted by the Zanzibar Airport Authority (ZAA) and the Zanzibar Commission for Tourism (ZCT). Egis and SEGAP led the application process and managed coordination with ZAA and ZCT up to the submission of the bid. Given that both the airport and the destination are driving tourism and aviation development in the region, everyone is excited about the opportunity to shine a spotlight on the beautiful island of Zanzibar.
AviaDev is the only event dedicated to air service development for Africa. Each year, it brings together over 350 aviation and tourism executives and government representatives from more than 40 countries to discuss the state of the industry and opportunities for increased collaboration and commercial development.
Zanzibar, off the coast of Tanzania, is considered one of the top destinations in Africa, so it is no surprise that it was chosen to host the conference. With the best diving spots, amazing food and a wealth of culture and history, the destination attracted over 630,000 tourists in 2023. Zanzibar’s Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (AAKIA) welcomed 2.14 million passengers in the same year, with connections to 30 destinations from 26 airlines. AAKIA also received ACI’s** Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Award earlier this year in recognition of its outstanding customer service. With these accolades, Zanzibar has put itself on the map of the aviation industry in Africa!
