A Strategic Airport for Western Bahia
Located in one of the most economically important regions of Bahia’s interior, Barreiras Airport plays an essential role in the mobility and development of Western Bahia. The city stands out as a major hub for agribusiness, commerce, and services, influencing numerous municipalities and concentrating activities that require increasingly efficient connections with other regions of the country.
The region’s economic dynamism has created the need to prepare the airport for a new stage of growth. To address this scenario, Egis developed the Basic Design for the renovation and expansion of the airport infrastructure, encompassing interventions on the runway, aircraft apron, taxiways, and operational support systems.
Among the project's main components is the extension of the runway. The existing 1,600-meter runway was reassessed considering the airport’s operational growth prospects. The proposed solution includes extending the runway to 1,950 meters, as well as adapting the runway strip to a total length of 2,070 meters.
This intervention was designed to increase the airport’s operational capacity and create conditions for more regular year-round operations. The new configuration also supports the implementation of Non-Precision IFR operations, reducing limitations associated with weather conditions and increasing infrastructure reliability for passengers, airlines, and airport operators.
