Prioritisation of public transport.
To improve mobility in Oradea, the Municipality identified, using a detailed Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan, many actions to: increase public transport attractiveness; to encourage non-motorised transport; and to reduce traffic problems, all whilst expanding areas for pedestrians
Emanuil Gojdu square and surroundings was a challenging area with many traffic issues, as the square was the meeting point of over 80% of the bus and tramway routes: The challenge was to find the best options to transform the large square, currently crossed by boulevards, tramways and busways into a functional mobility area
Egis designed a solution involving sending traffic underground, creating dedicated bus lines and prioritizing the tramway, so as to leave an open pedestrian square that offers best views. The project is now in the construction phases and Egis has continued to support with the detailed design and technical assistance to ensure the constructions is in accordance with the project objectives.
