Major signalling solutions for Cross River Rail: Enhancing capacity and connectivity across Queensland
Egis’ Rail Systems and Signalling Team (formerly Omada Rail) was initially engaged under Time & Materials (T&M) to deliver smaller signalling design packages. By consistently meeting deadlines and delivering quality outputs, the team was awarded the full Cross River Rail South Signalling Design Package, which, at a total contract value of A$43M, is one of Queensland’s largest signalling design contracts. In March 2026, Egis was officially announced as the preferred signalling design delivery team for the Cross River Rail North package.
Egis’s works on the south package include:
- Early work to relocate signalling infrastructure to enable construction
- Establishing Clapham Yard, a new 19-road stabling yard with a new Microlok II interlocking and local control panel
- Major multistage commissioning for complex upgrades at Yeerongpilly, Tennyson, Moorooka for bi-directional operations between Moorooka to Salisbury and improved operational flexibility and capacity
Multiple interlocking systems (VPI, Westlock, Microlok II, SSI, RRI) required complex system interface demands, necessitating exceptional diligence and specialist competency from the Rail Signalling Team.
The project also involved innovative consolidation of staged commissioning events to minimise network disruptions.
Team leaders were able to call on the expertise of more than 50 dedicated Egis staff across Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia, Victoria and experienced resources in the wider Egis global network. This included strong collaboration between technical, commercial, and legal teams to get external partners engaged in a rapid time.
