Time, resources and data visibility
The Dublin Tunnel and Jack Lynch Tunnel are two of Ireland’s most high‑value, safety‑critical transport assets. Operated by Egis, our activities include tunnel maintenance, tolling, traffic management, incident response, and emergency phones.
Like many long-established tunnel systems, they were facing a convergence of pressures:
-
The existing asset management system (Maximo 8) lacked structured location data, failure codes, and user-friendly mobile capabilities.
-
Increasing operational complexity, including integration requirements with the new SCADA system.
-
A challenging renewal phase, due to the age of the tunnels and associated assets, and a new reliance on evidence-based data to support project proposals
-
Limited realtime visibility of asset condition across distributed teams.
-
Preparing for contract renewal, with more extensive performance and reporting obligations to meet regulatory requirements and align with innovation goals.
With just six months to get organised for the new contract while ensuring business continuity on the current contracts, resources and time were key pinch points. The tunnels needed more than a technology upgrade — they required a step‑change in how asset data, field teams, and operational workflows connected.
The Egis Road and Tunnel Operations team in Ireland reached out to Egis’ in-house asset management specialists, alongside newly acquired Certus Digital, to support them with this project, and challenged them to help deliver it before the end of the year.
