Meeting the growing demand for Innovative exhibition space
DWTC aims to transform Dubai Exhibition Centre (DEC) into the region’s largest purpose-built indoor exhibition space, making it a as a cornerstone of Dubai’s events landscape. This required Egis, as the Lead Engineering Consultant, to meet ambitious timelines, while delivering innovative engineering solutions.
“Our work revolves around creating very large clear open spans,” notes Paolo Odorico, Project Director at Egis. “The South Hall features a very large portal frame that spans 120 meters clear, and is 300 meters long. In the North Hall, we have a 72-meter clear span, across almost 400 meters long. These metrics are indicative of the scale and uniqueness of the project.”
The complexity of the project demanded simultaneous procurement, design and construction: a feat that required extraordinary coordination with multiple stakeholders.
Paolo elaborates: “One of our biggest challenges was balancing three workstreams. Added to that was the mandate to future-proof every decision made, reducing the risk of abortive costs in the future or avoiding a clash further down the road, baking in potential conflicts with future plans.”
