Addressing capacity pressures and delivering inclusive education
As part of Midlothian Council’s Learning Estate Strategy 2017–2047, it was identified that a new two-stream primary school was required to address capacity pressures across the Newbattle High School associated school group area.
Midlothian Council, the local authority covering the area immediately south of Edinburgh, is ambitious for the future of the region. Working as a Community Planning Partnership, the Council aims to improve health and learning outcomes, tackle inequality, and make significant progress towards net zero carbon emissions.
The challenge was to deliver a £19.6 million education facility that could meet growing demand for school places, provide specialist support for children with social, emotional and behavioural needs, and align with the Council’s wider sustainability and community objectives, all within a robust governance and procurement framework.
