Guadalajara Metro Line 3

Supervision of studies, procurement and construction works, as well as the performance of the independent safety assessment (ISA) for Line 3 of the Light Rail Line in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.

Egis, was in charge of supervising the contracts of:

Supply, installation and commissioning of rolling stock, railway signaling, communications systems, control center, tunnel electromechanical systems, railway track, catenary, power systems and construction of two 230Kv high voltage substations,
Construction of the Workshops and Garages, including administrative and secondary buildings, manufacture and supply of fixed installations and general workshop equipment,
Supply, installation and commissioning of machinery and specialized maintenance equipment for the workshops and depots.

At the beginning of the line's operation, the estimated frequency was 7.5 minutes during peak hours and 9.5 minutes during off-peak hours.

The current number of trains allows for a minimum interval of 4 minutes and 40 seconds during peak hours (the maximum capacity of the line is a 2-minute interval). With 18 trains on the line (capacity: 500 passengers/train), a maximum speed of 80 km/h and a commercial speed: 38.7 km/h.

And likewise, this project supports the economy of the users since some of them used to spend up to 6 daily fares, now many of the citizens spend 3 or less.

Controlled deadlines

Egis proposed scenarios to control deadlines in the systems area and, at the same time, to value and increase the percentage of locally sourced equipment in order to meet the agreed deadlines.

Multi-contract interface management

The supervision mission consisted of controlling and inspecting each phase of construction: designs (detailed and execution), factory deliveries, on-site installation and construction, testing up to commissioning.

This supervision mission also covered the interface management activities between the 7 works contracts for this new metro line and the ISA (Independent Safety Assessment) certification.

A strong mobilization of experts with in-depth technical knowledge of the local context

For 5 years, the project team, composed of 25 key experts and up to about 70 support engineers, mobilized around this major project that went into service in September 2020.

Thanks to its in-depth technical knowledge of the local context, the team played an active role in the coordination of the various stakeholders, the resolution of technical issues and, of course, the success of the project as a whole.

A successful project that consolidates Egis' presence in the Mexican transportation market.

Egis was recognized by the client SCT as a company specialized in rail transportation systems in Mexico, for the professionalism and support given throughout the project until its commissioning.
