Building reliable and efficient institutions.
Today, Climate change affects Ukraine more than most European countries, through increased droughts, wildfires, rising sea levels, decreased water resources, and most of all the invasion of Ukraine affecting agriculture and public health. The need for adaptation in Ukraine is pressing, as some effects are already irreversible.
The project “Strengthening the capacity of regional and local administrations for implementation and enforcement of EU environmental and climate change legislation and development of infrastructure projects” is financed by the EU and is being implemented by ENVIROPLAN S.A. (GR) and Egis.
The project provides long-term support in raising Ukrainian public authorities' capacities at local and regional levels, helping to bring in key reforms stemming from the Association Agreement and DCFTA, including the capacity to carry out legal approximation process with the EU in areas of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), waste management and climate change adaptation.
Additionally, it is expected to improve the capacity of the national authorities for the coordination of activities at a regional level and as well for the development of large investment projects in the waste management sector. The primary beneficiaries on a national level are the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources and the Ministry of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Communal Services.
