Every tunnel project draws on a wide range of skills and knowhow. For the last 50 years, Egis’s Tunnels unit has reflected this diversity by applying a multidisciplinary approach in its endeavours to keep its services in perfect alignment with the requirements of its clients.

Facing the challenges of tomorrow

Our tunnels personnel provide engineering and construction services on all kinds of projects in France and around the world, from design through to operation.
The Egis Group’s Tunnels unit draws on expertise from every discipline in tunnel and underground structures:

Our acknowledged expertise in tunnel and underground structures is based on solid experience:

  • Integrated consulting and project management services in over 90 tunnel projects;
  • Co-contractors in 160 tunnel projects;
  • Work in thirty different countries on every continent;
  • French and European research and development projects;
  • Research doctorate at Université Paris Sciences et Lettres (PSL) prepared at Mines PARITECH in the framework of a CIFRE industrial research and training mechanism on the design and engineering of underground structures in discontinuous rocky massifs – development of the isolated blocks method;
  • Participation in numerous national industrial forums, in collaboration with CETU, and in international forums with the French Association for Tunnels and Underground Spaces (AFTES), the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association (ITA-AITES) and the Permanent International Association of Road Congresses (PIARC);
  • Research conducted on an internal basis (e.g. development of Zephyr software);
  • Experts certified by the National Road Structure Safety Evaluation Commission (CNESOR);
  • Feedback from our engineers and capitalisation of their knowhow.

This accumulation of experience and expertise has been helped by low employee churn and by the combined work/study vocational training cycles which have enriched the skills of many of our personnel in the fields of civil engineering and equipment.

Egis has engineers specialising in all the tunnel construction disciplines - civil engineering, equipment, security, ventilation - making Egis Tunnels an all-rounder in a sector where such operators are rare.

From the design phase onwards, effective management of the interfaces between disciplines is essential for a successful project.
