Keolis Consulting & Projects and Egis cement their Asset Management credentials with ISO 55001 certification for KeolisAmey Docklands in London

KCP (Keolis Consulting & Projects) and Egis recently joined their respective competencies in Asset Management and collaborated in a joint project team to support KeolisAmey Docklands (KAD) in achieving ISO 550001 certification in just over a year. The project further strengthens KCP and Egis Asset Management credentials with both companies having supported several infrastructure projects around the world secure certification to ISO 55001.

Since September 2019, KCP and Egis have been supporting KAD, the franchise holder of the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) network in East London to develop its Asset Management system in line with the international standard. This collaboration achieved its challenging objective to obtain the international standard ISO 55001:2014 for Asset Management in just over a year, completing it in December 2020.

The Asset Management journey has supported KAD in developing their strategic framework, key procedures, plans and integration of IT systems within the management system. In addition, the project has supported a cultural shift with the local team now having a common understanding of Asset Management, their impact on asset performance and how their interfaces with other teams impact asset performance.

The DLR network

The Docklands Light Railway is an automated light metro system opened in 1987 to serve the redeveloped Docklands area of East London, including the key business district of Canary Wharf, with a total of 40 km of rail, 45 stations and 149 trains. It has 5 separate lines and many connecting stations with other lines of the London transport network. The network's latest extension was in 2011.

The DLR is operated under a franchise contract awarded in 2014 by TfL (Transport for London) to KAD, a joint venture between transport operator Keolis and infrastructure specialists Amey plc. Initially awarded until 2021, the franchise was extended by 4 years in December 2019, until 2025.

Our mission

A partnership between KCP and Egis enabled the formation of a multi discipline team of Asset Management experts with a local project manager embedded in the client team in London. As part of the scope we successfully delivered:

- Project management: coordination, planning and roadmap, risks and opportunities management, reporting (including steering committees and interfacing with the client’s senior management team);

- Technical support to KAD in developing its Asset Management System:

  • Initial assessment of KAD's maturity in Asset Management;
  • Sharing of best practice from other KCP and Egis projects to structure both the strategic and more operational aspects of the system;
  • Support in developing a comprehensive Asset Management System, including the strategic framework, key processes and interfaces with IT systems;
  • Development of an Asset Management awareness programme;
  • Lead of periodic reviews and mock audits to prepare for formal certification.

- Development of a continuous improvement approach to improve KAD's competencies and embed the Asset Management System beyond the certification journey.

The rapid deployment of the joint team with the construction and successful execution of an action plan to secure certification further demonstrates KCP and Egis international experience in Asset Management. In addition, it highlights the ability of the two companies to be able to form joint collaborative project teams and to successfully manage complex projects to support their clients in meeting their objectives.
