UK innovation and industry accelerator Connected Places Catapult (CPC) has appointed Egis to five separate lots in its new £8 million framework contract. The framework will provide CPC with a streamlined process to obtain the skills and capabilities it needs to advance its innovation agenda across the different transport domains in which it operates.
In appointing providers, CPC sought evidence not only of capabilities and experience in innovative leading-edge projects, but also of effective stakeholder engagement, team working and operational transfer. As consultants, engineers and operators of sustainable infrastructure and mobility services, Egis was perfectly suited to demonstrate the industry knowledge needed alongside the flexible, customer-focused approach that CPC is looking for.
Commenting on this important achievement, Claire Davies, UK Managing Director, Egis said: “This success underlines the strength of our offering in customer focused innovation solutions within the transport domain, enabling us to draw on our in-depth aviation, rail, road, highways and built environment expertise across the group and within the UK. We are looking forward to supporting CPC in projects that require our specialist expertise in business cases and impact analyses, market and technological assessment, systems engineering, applied data and urban planning – the latter through our in-house architects Weston Williamson + Partners.”
Egis has already delivered work for CPC having developed the roadmap for use of digital twins for future air mobility, building upon experience working with the multi-stakeholder Future Flight Challenge (FFC) for which we developed the initial safety framework in partnership with the University of York.
Beyond aviation, Egis is currently supporting the UK rail industry in delivering an ambitious and significant technology development and implementation programme for Network Rail (NR). The NR Intelligent infrastructure programme will deliver significant financial benefit for NR and represent a step change in how NR assets are maintained, using data, intelligent systems and tools. Egis is instrumental in the delivery of this complex programme, working across the key workstreams and supporting supply chain partners.
Among its many flagship projects in the UK built environment, Egis referenced a rail project by its architects Weston Williamson and Partners, to showcase its collaborative approach to dealing with complexity. The Ebbsfleet Central Masterplan will allow what is currently a car park to become the heart of Ebbsfleet Garden City, providing flexible workspaces, homes and community facilities, creating a dynamic and innovative sub-regional business hub. The complexities of the site required a collaborative working approach with our team of engineering and environmental specialists and with the wider group of stakeholders, local communities, and local authority. Looking across the Ebbsfleet Central area we identified key spatial priority areas, strategic links and enabling projects which are essential to a successful development.
These examples provide a snapshot of Egis activities relevant to the CPC innovation agenda and underline our holistic understanding of the technology development lifecycle from initial concept, to design and testing, certification, build and operational handover.
